Company Mapping Cannabis DNA Could Make For Better CBD Oil

A Colorado company says mapping the cannabis plant's genome can help sort out the legitimate claims about products such as CBD Oil from the bogus. “DNA, of course I’m biased because it’s what I do, but it doesn’t lie. It really is a way to just sort of clear a lot of the b.s.,” said CJ Schwartz, chief executive officer of Sunrise Genetics. “The excessive claims are really doing a disservice to the plant or the potential of the plant and the science surrounding that.” According to Bloomberg (via The Cannabist): A deeper understanding of genetics means companies will be able to figure...

Will Jeff Sessions’ war on weed whack CBD Oil sales?

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions is seeking to turn the clock back by reversing Obama-era guidelines discouraging federal marijuana prosecutions in states that have legalized weed. The longer answer is that it's not even clear how Sessions' directive issued last week will affect marijuana sales. "The Justice Department's new directive leaves the legal status of cannabis up to 93 US Attorneys," Rep. Jared Polis, a Colorado Democrat who's seeking to become the governor of his home...

Hemp oil helps drive production boom

Hemp oil's growing popularity is a factor in the spread of hemp farming from state to state. Wisconsin made itself the most recent state to allow farmers to grow industrial hemp. The legislature there voted unanimously in favor of the crop and Gov. Scott Walker signed the bill. Wisconsin Ag Connection reports: The legislation specifics that anyone with a prior drug conviction would not be eligible to grow hemp. Researchers look to uncover hemp genetics

Researchers from UC-Davis are teaming up with Colorado biotech Front Range Biosciences to study the genome of industrial hemp. Support for marijuana legalization grows

A new poll shows majority support for marijuana legalization, even among Republicans. The Gallup poll released this month shows 64 percent of American adults support legalization. For the first time, a majority of Republicans, 51 percent, support it. Support from Democrats rose to 72 percent. The polling organization has tracked attitudes toward legalizing marijuana for nearly five decades, and the polls show slow but steady support for legal marijuana. Here's Gallup: Gallup first asked national adults about their views on the topic in 1969, when 12% supported legalization. Support had more than doubled by the end of the next decade but changed little...
